Sunday morning visit 9:00am 3/9/08

She was getting a CAT scan when we arrived so we could not get in to see her. Two doctors came out to talk to us and explain what was going on. the bolt in her head (that measures the pressure/swelling) was showing high readings however the CAT scan was not showing any additional swelling. They thought the bolt was not reading right so they replaced the bolt. It also showed a high reading. Minutes ago we received a call from the doctor and there is some some swelling and fluid buildup. and pressure is increasing- they are heavily sedating her doing some procedure to help relieve this. Some family left immediately to go to the hospital to be with MJ. The procedure, which I think is making a small hole in the skull across from where the bolt is, will be done at her bedside and not in the operating room. Davey took the call and he wanted to get up to the hospital so we did not press him. She was responding to commands this morning to the doctors with her left side and was off her sedation but they put her back on sedation during all this. When we get details we will update. We could not have made it this far without your love, support and prayers. Please keep them coming. With much love...Frank

Thank God MJ's vitals are being monitored so closely so that they can spring into action when it's needed. I hope that's a big comfort to you all during these scary moments.

Love, Linda

MJ, Davey, and all her loving and supportive family.

Whenever I describe my treasured friend to anyone, it starts with how funny and creative MJ is and what a pleasure it is to spend time with her. Cindy, I have always admired MJ’s ability to write and it is obvious that it runs in the family. As one of lovable Lew’s ladies at Sofamor Danek, I had ten years to sit near MJ and experience her funny and mischievous side. She never let me down!

One year for the president’s birthday, she BORROWED one of the company’s skeletons and placed it into his chair and decorated his office with everything she could find. Fortunately it wasn’t toilet paper! MJ always won the costume contests, and I know this comes as no surprise to everyone; especially, if you have been to a Weakes Halloween party.

Her best ever was when the company president was upset over the lack of communication with the sales force, and MJ wrote them a memo that went something like the BIG CHIEF had a powwow and wants more spoke signals between tribes. Well, when he came out of the office he had smoke coming out his ears, and I just knew she had gotten both of us fired. He demanded to know who wrote that memo! Then with a smile as big as MJ’s, he admitted that he thought it was the funniest memo he had every read and praised her writing skills. A big relief!

MJ brings so much joy and laughter into the lives of everyone that knows her. Her beautiful smile and laughter are gifts to all of us. MJ you are such a blessing, and you've made a difference in so many lives. Please use that inner strength I saw every day at SDG and keep fighting. I’m holding a date for our yearly margarita night.

God bless everyone for keeping us updated on MJ’s progress. She is on our mind and in our prayers constantly. I don’t miss an hour checking on her progress. Davey, we love all of you dearly!

I've been thinking about MJ a lot and it's good to read the updates on her recovery. I turned 17 today and I think the best birthday gift would be for MJ to get better soon-- then we could continue our heated scrabulous game even if MJ wins every time :P
Yesterday, I went to visit the University of Illinois. On the drive down I saw the interstate sign leading to Memphis and thought about everyone and all the wonderful memories that I treasure from family trips to visit MJ and Davey.
Love to everyone!

Dear family and friends, Mike, Lauren and I thank all of our friends, family and IMPACT family who have been sending prayers and kind words of support from around the world. This has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Mary Jo Herring Weakes is truly a blessed woman. Family and friends have rallied and provided the emotional and personal support that only family and friends can provide. I have witnessed loving responses to Davey and Mary Jo's lifetime of caring and community involvement. Calls, coolers, food beyond wonderful, prayer circles, prayer vigils only begin to describe the outreach that we have witnessed.

At a local store, a young woman asked how Mary Jo was and to be sure to tell Davey how much she values and appreciates their kindness to her over the years.

At church yesterday a neighbor approached us and told us how special Mary Jo and Davey are to their neighborhood and how blessed she feels to know them. When we came home Davey said the neighbor was a year new to the neighborhood and they included her right away. The close knit experience of their neighborhood has made me re-evaluate our neighborhood where we have lived for 25 years and know 4 people on the street!

I want to thank everyone of our family and friends for reaching out to us and making us feel so loved and cared for. Mary Jo, Davey, Amy, Brian and Rachel and all their families appreciate all that you have done for them and especially appreciate the loving notes on the site so they can share them with Mary Jo when she comes home.

Let us all remember that family and friends and God are the most important things in life. I know I will be reaching out to touch and help many more people as a result of this experience. We saw Mary Jo today and she was able to raise 2 fingers when asked to. That is the blessing I am taking home with me today. (Had she been able to raise both hands, she would have given us 2 thumbs up to all of you.) God Bless you all, Love Laura, Mike and Lauren Herring
